The Southport administrators released him.Their manager was, also released, at a time when the Club supporters were protesting about their relegation, wanting a change of ownership. I saw Neil play several times for Southport, including their game against Gateshead, when he was facing his former Wrexham colleague Wes York. Neil was outstanding on that occasion and his legs certainly did not let him down. Neil was not only a good player, he was a gentleman. My wife suffered from cancer and he went out of his way to send her a Get Well Card. He liked the Wrexham area and I would imagine that was a key factor in him joining Cefn Druids.
