Must be disappointing but I guess there has to be a cutoff point when they become available again.
As you said, ideally you'd have seen this somewhere, I'm fairly sure I did. (just can't recall at the moment where it was)
I think 2 things might need to happen here:
1. Next season make sure this deadline is as clear as the early bird deadline.
2. If you can't, for a legitimate reason, buy your ticket until later, might be worth getting in touch with the club and explaining. The guys in the shop etc have been pretty good at assisting where they can.
