The owners of Man City own or have stakes in 4 other clubs. It is an advertising/ publicity campaign for Abu Dhabi. While the various clubs are competing at the top end of the table, they'll continue investing.
Man Utd are a bit like the USA. God knows how much in debt but because of the worldwide presence, the money keeps rolling in and nobody looks at the debt.
