Default Re: Pre Season Friendlies 2018

It's all subjective though.
Alternatively if we played higher league opposition (including Stoke City reserves) we would be playing better quality players. By the time the season arrived it could be argued the standard of opposition would drop to a lower level.
I feel there is more to it than just the opposition - a chance for those that don't travel to away games, in fact the only chance to see the new manager and newly assembled squad on home soil and we needed something attractive to bring in the new season - no disrespect to FGR but they have no appeal whatsoever in this neck of the woods. Interestingly prior to playing us they have games in the previous week against Bristol Rovers, Hereford and even a lower placed league team on the Friday night before arriving here on the Saturday.
Stoke City reserves might have trounced us but from a fitness point of view it should be no different and actually an opportunity to pit ourselves v high class opposition - they would also pull in a crowd including a few away fans - all buying food, drink and a bit of merchandise.
Also peoples calendars are filling up quickly especially during summer holiday season - there was a time when we would advertise 'Open Day' if indeed we are having one - they used to be incorporated in with a pre season fixture sometimes.
