On this week’s Dragonheart we have a chat with Former Reds Defender Nigel beaumont
After growing up in yorkshire,Nigel tells us how he got into football after a few trials with local sides, he eventually signed for Bradford, and made his debut v Barnsley and a welsh international player, made it an unhappy game, he also played against England Cricket legend Ian Botham, who was playing a few games for Scunthorp at the time, and he also chats about being at Bradford and on the side of the pitch when the Bradford fire disaster happened.
He then moves on to chat about coming to play at Wrexham, after getting released by Bradford, he had a call from Dixie Mcneil, to come and join Wrexham even though he had never seen him play!! He also tell us the story of Dixie leaving the club, after a journey from hell going to an away game.
‘Garth’ gives his views about his dislike for playoffs and only one team being able to gain promotion from the National League, he goes on to tell us about playing in Europe with Wrexham against Lyngby at home, but not away because of the ‘English Foreigner ruling’ then playing Manchester United at Old Trafford where he gave away a penalty!
We then talk about playing at Wrexham under Brian Flynn, who took over from Dixie Mcneil, and not playing regular and being behind Mark Sertori or Brian Carey in the pecking order in defence, he then moves on and tells us about leaving Wrexham and playing for Telford, then working at Brymbo and fishing his career at Lex, but not going into coaching afterwards.
Nigel tells us why he stayed in the area after finishing with football, and how his son Bobby is now with Wrexham Afc too, and finally we look back at some of the players he played alongside.
