Default Re: Barrow, Cheap Option & Danny Ward money

For all the modernisation of today's game, the old methods still have a place.

If you allow a team to dictate play you are surrendering any initiative. You are then facing a battle to retain possession and to create movement of your own.

Whereas if you get into their faces as soon as they receive the ball, make them know you are there, they can be forced into playing a ball too quickly or wildly and losing possession. Plus mentally, it can have an affect on them too.

We have been more successful in our time down here when we had midfield bosses like Keates and Harris. They were on their opponents immediately and it allowed our extra midfielder (Fowler, Tolley, Clarke) to get the ball and start a move of our own.

Our current midfield seem to be told to sit back in front of the defence and let the opposition come to them, try and catch them on the break. it worked for a while but teams are getting wise and a lot of the time midfield is bypassed by both teams due to a direct, long ball approach.
