I think Ricketts was unaware of the FIFA ruling but had gone too far down the road to pull back without losing face and admitting his inexperience.

Surely you don't really believe that do you? He was a player not that long ago so he would have been well aware, as the club would have been.
I know Ricketts isn't liked (an understatement and perfectly understandable btw) but we don't half sound like a bunch of bitter and jealous fans.
