Default Rob Lainton Re-signed

Great news!

"Wrexham AFC are delighted to confirm that 2018-19 ‘Player of the Season’ Rob Lainton has accepted a new two-year deal with the club.

The Dragons goalkeeper joined Wrexham on an initial loan from Port Vale in July 2018 before the club announced a permanent arrangement in November, until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Rob would make an excellent impression during the season equalling the club record for league clean sheets, while making 48 appearances he would keep 25 clean sheets in all competitions.

The 29-year-old cemented his place as a fans favourite when he swept up five awards from supporters groups at the 2018-19 player of the season awards dinner.

On signing his new deal Rob said: “I’m really happy to get the deal done and secure my future with Wrexham Football Club for the next two seasons at least.

“We came so close last season. Now we have a chance to build on that and go one step further. I have sat down with the manager and I was really happy he wanted me to stay and that he offered me a long term deal at the club.”

He added: “Equalling the (club) clean sheet record actually meant a lot to me but with the defence in front of me and the goalkeeping set-up we have here at this club it’s a team effort.

“I’m looking forward to coming back after the summer refreshed and ready to go. We’ll get a good pre-season in the legs and give ourselves the best possible preparations for when the season starts.”

Rob is the fourth player to accept new terms with the club ahead of the 2019-20 season, he joins Doug Tharme, Mark Carrington and Paul Rutherford in doing so.

Manager Bryan Hughes has also offered a deal to left-back James Jennings who has been given more time to consider the contract offered due to a family bereavement.

Meanwhile, midfielder Luke Summerfield who picked up an injury in our last game against Eastleigh will be monitored by our medical team before concluding his contract talks."
