Alan was a star at Grove Park yet always had time for us lesser mortals.I saw him play for Wales Youth v Ireland at the Racecourse and also travelled to Cardiff ,just after the Aberfan disaster in 1966,to see him make his debut for Wales against Scotland.Terry Hennessey ex GP also played.I bumped into Alan in a pub car park at Stone,Staffs when on my way to see Wrexham at,I think,Nott's County.He was with the Mansfield team on their way to play
Chester.
Another memory is of him playing for Mansfield at the Racecourse and making,shall we say,a particularly robust challenge on Arfon Griffiths.
RIP Alan,a boyhood hero and a great guy.
