It has been
4 weeks since an unsubstantiated legal threat was made against RP & its users. |

Since last Thursday I have been hoping that the next update will be 'RP is back', sadly this is not the case due the ongoing correspondence from Gamlins Solicitors on acting on behalf of their client, Mr. Geoffrey Moss, a Director of Wrexham Football Club Limited. I have had ongoing excellent positive discussions with representatives of the club and had agreed a way forward with them on Friday 19th, part of which included a club statement which I believe was read out on Monday night infront of fans and the press. Implementation of that has, however, not happened. The stumbling block, as far as I can tell, is that the legal threats will not, at present, be withdrawn. On Tuesday (23rd) I contacted Gamlins again requesting either the information to comply with their initial vague and wide ranging complaint, or, to confirm that their client would not be pursuing the threatened prosecutions against numerous RP posters ('20 regular and anonymous users or a smaller number who adapt their online identities') of a 'criminal nature for threats to harm' and 'racist comments' (references to Mosques in an non-football offtopic anti-EDL thread!), likewise that the pursuit of 'civil damages' against myself 'and any sponsors' will be unambiguously withdrawn and ceased. The quotes are from the correspondence I received from Gamlins. I was told on Tuesday 23rd that Gamlin's client 'is still considering their options' due to 'no apology has been communicated'. There will be no apology from me, as I have done nothing wrong. I have attempted to be as accommodating and cooperative as possible even when presented with frankly ludicrous allegations eg. that an offtopic thread from 2008 (incidentally 'out of time' legally for libel, but nevermind) on the 9/11 attacks was in some way 'linking Mr. Moss with Mossad the Israeli security service'. Presumably this was based on 'Mossad' having the word 'Moss' in it. On Wednesday the idea of inviting me to meet some members of the board to discuss RP was floated via phonecalls with the club, however I am advised it would be inappropriate for me to attend until the very serious legal threats have been fully withdrawn and I have told both the solicitors and club of that position. Likewise I reiterated that the statements and agreement prepared on Friday to the course of action that was to be taken with regards to the RP site was still fine in my view and likewise had the club's support, at least those I have spoken to. Sadly Gamlins informed me that there will be no further comment from them 'unless or until' such a meeting takes place. This altered on Thursday 25th to Gamlins requesting a meeting, with legal action to be 'held in abeyance' until 'matters agreed'. I enquired what the matters were, and was told 'the "matters" would be an apology to Geoff Moss in the first instance', they didnt say what other requests would be. Again I reiterated it would be inappropriate to meet with the legal action ongoing. Likewise re-stating I am more than happy to meet to discuss the future way RP & the club work together after that is withdrawn. I think the legal lingo is 'impasse', but not of my creation. I hope the club can find a way to follow through with what was agreed as future progress can not only benefit the club, but benefit RP's position as the independent fans community messageboard & website. Due to all this, apologies to you all for the site condition over the last two weeks, and yet more text at the top of the forums and I hope this keeps the community up to date. Cheers, Rob.
