Default New Tele

Anyone now any good shops websites that sell cheap tv's?

We've currently got a 26 inch hefty old lump, but are looking to upgrade to a 32 inch flat screen. We've found one for £270 from argos, are we likely to beat that.

Been looking myself for the last hour but I thought the good people of RP are a knowledgable bunch so any help appreciated.

You should be looking at Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic and Sony. When it comes to lcd tvs you do get what you pay for. You dont say what the tv is going to be used for but if its just for watching tv then HD Ready will be fine, if its for gaming , xbox 360 or PS3, then you should be looking at a 1080p model (more dots so better picture). Prices are always coming down and at the moment its the larger tvs 37" and above that seem to be coming down in price the most. You can pick up a 1080p 37" 100hz Toshiba from Amazon for £530 and Toshiba will give you £100 cash back. Has me very tempted and Im trying my best not to buy one.

Give Richer Sounds in Chester a ring and ask them what they have in stock.

With a smaller screen the difference between 720p and 1080p is hardly noticeable if at all. So if LWR is going for a 32" it isn't that important to have a 1080p screen. However I'd always go for the biggest size possible and it wouldn't harm having a full HD screen for future proofing.

If it's an average size living room I'd look to go at least 42" unless your room is really small then a 32" might have to do. If your budget is very small and you don't have a HD source I wouldn't even bother with a LCD/Plasma as an old CRT will give you a better picture.

Bought an Acoustic Solutions 32" HD ready TV for £249 from Argos earlier this year and it has been fine.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Basically me and the missus have moved to york about 6 weeks ago, and we brought her old tele, but the colour has gone completely and everything is green and purple. Money is abit tight at the mo with me having to leave my job to move to york, and only occasionally doing supply work, and all the savings went on the deposit and first months rent.

Were living off the missus' money at the moment, which is alot(but so's our rent and bills) and we've just spent over 1000 quid on furniture as, the flat is unfurnished.

The room is a fairly large in size and would be used for just the main tele(no gaming) 40 inches would not be too big but could probably be out our price range. We could strethc to 350-400 at maximum but with his needing a second sofa which is about 350 quid its getting very expensive. But were desperate for a tele so the sofa can wait until ive got a permnant job.

Thanks again.

In your situation just pick up a cheap second hand crt as I'm assuming you'll just be watching freeview? most people are just glad to get of them. Then later pick up an LCD or Plasma. It is pointless having a more expensive TV if you're just going to watch Freeview.

If you do decide to get a new one stick to well known brands like Samsung, Sony, Panasonic etc and try to have a quick look online at some reviews. Something like the Samsung (freeview built in) Wyn posted can be had for £320, may be cheaper I haven't looked around much. Play.com (UK) : Samsung Series 4 450 32" LE32B450 / HD Ready / Freeview / LCD TV (Black) : Electronics - Free Delivery. I think Richer Sounds is a similar price.
