General Election Poll - Please Vote!
Hi,
With a general election due anytime in the next few months, I thought it would be interesting to do a few straw polls between then and now to see if peoples opinions change on who they would vote for.
I ran a similar poll in Oct/Nov so going to run it again to see if anything has changed, the old thread can be found here General Election Poll - Please Vote!
Previous results were:
Labour 34 24.11%
Lib Dem 13 9.22%
Conservative 36 25.53%
Plaid Cymru 27 19.15%
UKIP 5 3.55%
Green 4 2.84%
Communist 8 5.67%
Others 2 1.42%
I wouldnt vote 8 5.67%
BNP 4 2.84%
All votes are secret so no one will know who voted for which party.
Please vote away, and feel free to discuss the results in this thread
Cheers,
Rob.

Re: General Election Poll - Please Vote!
Conservatives last time, other today as no other option applies - dont know at the moment. DC & GO are making a fantastic effort at trying to give away a winning position.
I think UKIP may get one of the biggest increases in % of vote in this election, at the Tories expense.

Re: General Election Poll - Please Vote!
I didn't vote last time, but made my decision in december, it is labour for me as it is a first past the post system.
the idea of a tory government in charge and a double dip recession petrifies me...so i must vote labour to stop that risk.
A hung parliament until march 2011, with Vince Cable at the exchequer and a referendum on proportional representation is my ideal choice.

Do you believe that we can sweep the fundamental problems under the carpet for ever?

Are you saying a double dip recession could only happen if the Conservatives were in power, or that it could happen regardless but you would rather Labour at the helm rather than the Conservatives?

I think the fundamental problem is personal greed.. that will never be addressed by a politician of the two main parties.

there is more risk of it happening under a conservative government because they want to reduce spending from may 7th. It's too early especially after the poor growth figure this weak. It has to be controlled and from 2011.
That's not saying that we risk a second recession in 2012, 2013 or 2014 by not being able to pay our debts in the long term...but if we have a double dip, that will happen anyway, because of lost tax revenues and more public spending.

I have always believed there are two basic human motivations for doing anything greed & fear, everyone is greedy naturally but fear reigns that in ... well it used to, mostly now governments protect against the fear factor allowing greed to dominate.
I was more addressing the issue of debt, whether personal, corporate or national, your point is well linked as the debt is there partly due to the state encouraging it in one way or another and partly because of greed, i.e. why save for your LCD TV when you can get it on the drip, why save to build a multi billion pound investment in the olympics when you can sell gilts etc.
So being more specific do you believe that Labour can borrow (or print) our way out of debt with no negative implications?

good question...
no there will be negative implications with labour, it's going to be more tax, high inflation and less government spending on everything.
I just think there will be less negative implications for the average man on the street than if the tories get in.
My view is both parties have both used personal greed for vote winning and both would have got themselves into the trouble we are in now. We all know labour wrongly didn't save for a rainy day via spending too much and I believe the tories would have done the same too, but preferring to give tax cuts.
