I think the FAW were right to withhold official support for the GB Olympic team but allow individual players to make up their own minds about whether to -play or not. To then punish those same players by banning them from representing Wales again would be both vindictive and self-defeating. Bale , Ramsey , Taylor etc have major roles to play in rebuilding our national side. Strongly resisting any moves to force the four Home nations to play International Football as one team is right. Scapegoating individual players is wrong.

Dont agree with the team GB thing - but best of luck to him. Decent player and hope he brings much needed revenue for us. If he puts in a good performace it can only increase his value

The issue of punishing players for appearing in a GB Olympic team is , with respect, another matter completely. Who should decide , and administer sanctions? Not the FAW surely , having given players carte blanche to decide for themselves ??? Imagine Gareth Bale taking the FAW to court over an unreasonable denial of his right to ply his trade at the highest International level , with an inevitable and substantial loss of income , because he dared to accept an invitation to play in a GB Olympic team. Q Mr Bale , did you consider that your actions in playing for the GB Olympic team might damage your International career? A No Q Why not? A Because I was given permission . Q By whom? A The FA of Wales Bale would win his case. It would cost the FAW a fortune in legal fees and compensation and they would end up looking ridiculous. Fans, the media , and sponsors would crucify them ....... and rightly so. |

I should have added that any player sanctioned by the FAW would seek , and no doubt receive , full backing from the PFA . Our illustrious Welsh governing body , already mocked and despised through various actions including the disastrous Toshack reign and mistreatment of Brian Flynn , could have a players' strike on their hands.

FAW haven't actually given the players permission to play as such Dave! The statement was on the lines of we'd rather none of our players take part but we can't stop them playing if they want! Anyway it's a moot point if the FAW would actually ban them because I doubt they would. I'd be personally right behind them if they did though! I'll have to make do with making my feelings known by booing them from now on!

Its a mute point, the 4 nations will be preserved, the Olympics will not be a risk to it. The issue in FIFA is our permanent executive committee seat rather than the seperate entities, far more likely that as a compromise we will have to give that up to continue the status quo.
