Default A Decade Ago

After where we are now it was interesting to see where we were 10 years ago to this very month and what has changed. Apologies to newer members but it may bring back some memories to our older ones.

The month started on a debate over any windfalls for Ward should he play for Liverpool/Wales and over new signing Elliot Durells debut.

We lost to Dartford 2-1 at home who were second from bottom in the league in front of 2645, Coughlin & Ogleby were slated.

We drew mid week to Cambridge 0-0, then the following Saturday lost at home again to Barnet 1-0.

Andy Morrell left us as player manager at the end of the month and a day later we played "It's always bloody Luton " away and lost 5-0 ( Luton fans posted we were the best side to have played them this season)

Ruud Gullit was spotted in Wrexham Lidl buying cheese ( edam better be our new manager continued the thread)

Luton won the league that year and we finished 16th, while Chester got relegated.

As a final point in that month a thread was started called "A Decade Ago" which was about the fastest league hat trick in League Football scored against us by Bournemouth in 140 seconds where we lost 6-0 in 2004.

Statto then posted "I wonder where we will be in 10 years from now back in league 1 I hope"

This was answered by the Holt Dragon who replied

One thing is for sure, even if we are in league 1, the fans will moan just as they do now.

Coughlin and Ogleby to Okonkwo and Mullin. How 10 years (and a bit of spending cash) changes things.

Quality the timing that you’ve found that haha. That season was horrific. An ageing squad and it became clear that year that our budget was dwindling with our limitations at the time and that the non league struggle was going to carry on for years yet. Two really ugly kits too.

In 10 years we’ll be moaning about VAR and never having any 3pm Saturday games.

If VAR is still here in 10 years, I'm done with football as a match going fan

Morrell left and then the scoring mechanism made its maiden voyage.

I believe the scoring mechanism is now kept under lock and key in the warchest.

Which has been slid for safekeeping under Wilkin's table tennis set up.

The Bournemouth game was the only time I’ve left a game early in 54 years watching Wrexham. We decided to go when it was 5 0 to get a quick exit from the car park before the long drive home. Just got to the car when the cheer went up for the sixth. Didn’t know it was hayter again until it came on 606 on the way home

Didn't Armstrong for Wrexham score 2 the following week and missed a sitter for hat trick in what would have been a quicker time?
