Correction:
Roose did play for Wales at The Racecourse but he never played for the Wrexham club. He was of course born in Holt.
There is a very good book about his life and times.

Wiki states that they were still called knickers through to the 1960's TT, but just done a quick search of the national newspaper archives and it seems that the term football shorts starts appearing around 1910, but soon after there are numerous football short makers advertising their wears. Football shorts were also commonly used when bathing at the seaside from around the 1920's and there was a famous (at the time) raid by The Somerset light infantry in the first world war who twice raided the enemies trenches in 1918, wearing only football shirts and shorts. From around 1910 onwards, the term knickers seems to be replaced more and more by the term Football shorts, so I believe the Wiki page to possibly be incorrect. From 1910 people seem to be almost always refering to football shorts, rather then knickers, and manufacturers and sellers advetiise them as shorts. From this point, the word knickers seems to refer more to what we might call underpants.

That is the American import game of Push ball. Many towns had push ball teams and it seemed to be around in the 1920's 30's.
In America it was also played by men on horseback and also featured as a circus act. It weasels known to be played by women teams and I saw a picture once of native african women playing the game.
It is claimed that the ball was 6ft in dia and was of 'association' style i.e. a large football.
Just one of many games and events to have taken place at The Racecourse.
