Reliably informed this is Goalkeeper George Godding playing for Wrexham about 1922.

There are another two photo’s in ‘images of sport- Wrexham Football Club 1872-1950’ of a game between Wrexham and Aston Villa reserves at The Racecourse between 1905 and 1911, but in those photo’s Wrexham are playing in socks with a band at the top, and so I think that the photo’s in the book must have been taken between 1908 and 1911 (as Wrexham changed to socks with a band at the top from the start of the 1908/09 season) whereas the photo you have posted shows Wrexham in plain shirts and (socks with no bands) of the same colour with white shorts and the only period this happened in that time frame was the green strip from 1904 to 1908. And so I think that the photo was taken on 23rd Feb 1907 when Villa beat Wrexham by 2 goals to 1, on the Racecourse. The facade of The Turf Hotel confirms that the photo could only have been taken between 1900 and 1913, but as Wrexham only joined The Birmingham District League in 1905 then this date can be whittled down further to between 1905 and 1913. But when you take into consideration that Wrexham only wore plain socks from 1904 to 1908 then the photo could only have been taken in the seasons of 1905/06, 06/07 or 07/08. With this in mind, if you then zoom into the photo you can see a tower crane in the distance, to the left of the Turf Hotel. Wrexham Post Office on Egerton Street was built in 1885 and underwent a major rebuild which extended the rear of the property as an Inland Revenue office in 1907 (now council offices) and so I think that the tower crane in the distance was erected as part of the post office extension in 1907.
