Beg to disagree there, when I attended Yale from 1968-1972 it was known as Yale Grammar School. I still have a number of reports etc. with that name on them. For those of my year, we then went to Grove Park for our fifth year when Yale became a 6th Form college. |

Yes it was when I went there in 1961-62 it was based in huts around the Denbighshire Technical College car park opposite the gym. It changed its name to Yale High School when it moved into the new building on Crispin lane but not sure when.

Re: New tenants on Nine Acre
Correct, I went to Rhosddu and we were streamed into 2 classes A and B. The A class steam were allowed to take the 11 plus exam and 35 out of 36 passed. In the B stream they took an exam(I think) that sent them to the secondary modern schools.

I attended from 1971 to 1973, at which point comprehensive schooling was introduced and we all got shifted to either the new Grove Park Co-educational school or the newly created Bromfield school. Subsequently spent some time living and working in the USA, and people would be very impressed that I had received a Yale education. |

I attended Grove Park Grammar from 68 to 73, so we were contemoraries in that regard and must have spent our 5th form year together. I thought it all changed to Comprehensive in the 72/73 school year which was my last and was when Yale became a 6th form College. I didn't go to 6th form but a number of my friends did. My understanding has always been that kids who passed the 11plus could choose to attend either Grove Park Boys (or Girls) Grammar or go to Yale High School. Not sure what the academic differences were to be honest, other than all the Masters at GP wore there gowns on a daily basis (except maths teachers for some unknown reason), and in the first 2 years we were all taught the Classics (Latin Greek and Ancient History). May have been the same at Yale? |
