Last season this was down to Gary Mills being a useless turd, who clearly didn't pay much attention to his job which led to Manny Smith and Jamal Fyfield leaving as they didn't want to work with such a boss.

This season, it's partially down to a number of the players being on much bigger wages than they're worth. Keates didn't see Rooney as being worth over £1k a week and I agree with him. He released the rest of the players except a few as he feels he can get better for his money. Where Penn is concerned, it's likely that he's had his head turned by a better deal. Would you have offered him improved terms here? Thought not.

There doesn't always have to be something going on behind the scenes. Why is everybody so paranoid?

We don't know the conditions of the contracts. Penn wasn't worth spending much. People should wait for the facts.

With Mills we know why players didn't say. He was a pissed up mess of a manager. So let's find out why he opted out before assuming it's something we have done wrong.

Very disappointing if true. He would have offered some continuity from this seasons squad and has vast experience in the lower leagues. I hope keates has someone similar lined up to replace him. I thought he made a huge difference in the team, when he came in.

Let's not hope this the start of another season of bargain basement signings, because our "competitive" budget doesn't allow us to compete.

Wish him all the best, did a job for us when he first arrived and showed just how poor our midfield was but was found wanting at times, no pace and very leggy, we need someone like him but 3 years younger.

Penn would have been a good signing. I have a feeling that Dunn may also not put pen to paper. Money talks but we have very little of that in order to meaningfully compete in the current transfer market. I have heard via a WST source that Ollie Shenton may be targeted. Please put the Jordan Evans issue to bed. He is simply not strong enough for the National League.

All the negative crap on here doesn't help

If Penn hasn't re-signed due to financial reasons, you'd expect a 28 year old Penn to cost more than a 31 year old.

I hope we sign a talismanic midfielder but I'm not wholly convinced it's Penn
