Seems like a bit of inexperience on DK's part in terms of expectation management. As a young manager I think he'll have learnt a lesson and will probably be a bit more cautious commenting on potential signings next time.
I wonder how key having someone like Barry Horne was to help out with signing players

2h 20 mins to drive from York to Wrexham, including the nightmare M62 and the M56, so in reality it will be even more. That's at least an extra 1 hour 20 mins commute each day.

That's a big difference and many people would consider moving jobs because of it.

Exactly. Having lived in york for 5 years, I know both journeys well.

You can fly up the A1. And can do that journey in 1 hour and 15.

Whereas the M62 route can take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours. And is pure hell.

Easy decision for him.

Doesn't matter if we are bothered or not, We all believe Keates knows what he is doing and knows the right players he wants at the club and the fact is Keates wanted him to stay and he hasn't - so it's a disappointment for him and the club - he said so himself.

He probably contributed. I'm not sure that we built a league-winning team with any of the players who signed though.

It is clearly about money.....he will be saving on petrol money!!!!! In all honesty it's a no brainer for him.

That was one of the concerns raised when Keates took over that was he had very little transfer market experience and we might just have seen a bit of that here.

It's very possible that he was very close to signing for us, but at the last minute Gateshead contact him, he considers the easier location, he's been there before, he'll have teammates there and after talking it over with his family, he changed his mind.
