Jeez Next season we could have a better chance of gaining promotion, yet all the RP doom and gloom merchants are slamming the idea

Interesting reading the discussions on extending the number of teams in the play offs

In Australia in all of our top sports (Soccer, Rugby League and Aussie Rules) its never first past the post. We have play offs which differ by sport, but it ends up with a Grand Final to decide the winner.

This year Sydney FC won the Soccer "A league" by 17 points but had to revert to a penalty shoot out to claim the title. (41,500 at game).

Last year in the Aussie Rules Competition the eventual winner finished 8th prior to the "semi finals". This competition has average crowds higher than the English Premier League...so it obviously doesn't detract from attendances.
There has never been less than 90,000 at a Final.

Can see an argument for first past the post tho' and it is regularly brought up in all our major sports...but you can't have a competition without a Grand Final now can you!

Because some of us care about the good of the game as well as our own club. The second place team missing out on promotion to the fifth is galling. To miss out to the seventh is approaching random.

Ive always believed the play offs should incorporate the bottom team(s) of the higher league. As we are unlikely to get agreement to three up from the division perhaps a compromise could be reached.

1st - Automatic promotion
2nd - Automatic promotion
3rd-6th - Into playoffs with team winning getting into final with team finishing third from bottom in League 2 who get a bye to Wembley final.

I would go as far as saying it should be 4 up 4 down in line with every other division, i appreciate as it stands that the league clubs would not vote in favour of it but that is the equivalent of turkeys voting for Christmas.

I used to have lengthy discussions with a friend's dad (big wrexham fan) about the playoffs. He was a bit old school and thought if you finish 2nd/3rd etc, you deserve to go up as opposed to finishing 4 places below. However, I believe the playoffs are one of the greatest inventions in the game.

Daft idea. If its not adding an extra automatic promotion spot then its a bad idea. I'm still coming to terms with the fact we finished second in the league and didn't go up. Absurd and unfair.

Not that I would complain if we came 7th and went up, but it would be pretty bad to be honest. I don't believe in play-offs anyway as you have a whole season to prove you are better than the rest. It shouldn't be decided over a couple of games.

However, they exist and always will. There's no way a team in 7th should be able to go up over a team in 2nd. It just makes them even more of a lottery. Bad idea.

That's too ambitious aiming for top spot Dixie nobody at Wrexham aims for the top anymore just the play offs, ridiculous really it accepting being second best.

Any club start of season should be aiming for the top, if Lincoln can do it why can't we?

Obviously with starting from scratch yet again the odds of even challenging for the play offs are not good, but at start of season until impossible to do it top spot should be the aim.

A lot of fans at this club after 9 yrs of mediocrity have accepted being just that mediocre.
