When Allen came on as a second half sub in the televised match v Tranmere he almost changed the game on his own - we have lacked a wide man for some time, someone who can do something magical and change a game with flair and excitement - could that player be Rutherford if played out on the flank ?
He should be judged when played wide left. Like all players at this level he has weaknesses but Rutherford has ability. Hopefully CD will help him raise his game. Having better players around him would make a difference, because he wouldn't then have to do others' work for them.

Happy with folk airing their opinions on all players but the nonsense some spout should be highlighted and, ideally, made fun of!

You appear to be expecting a mix of Eden Hazard and Pele. Maybe you aren't right about him.
Not sure if serious, yes he chases lost causes as in running around in meaningless areas achieving nothing and getting passed around. Could this be the reason he rarely finishes 90 minutes? Puts a foot in, hmm a myth same as when Joe Clarke was here rarely tackles but because he looks 'busy' some fans think he's putting himself about. Can pick players out, 2 assists this season so no need to expand. I also recall you saying we were a better team with Mark Beck upfront so I'll take your opinion with a pinch of salt.

I do think there's an issue with Rutherford's perception of himself. Think he sees himself as a creator and there is definitely a lack of calm occasionally but then he was playing for one of the lowest scoring teams in the division and so people's reactions when presented with a chance will vary.

Happy to see him here.
It is relevant due to it being an indication of his ability. We need to remember he is not an up and coming youngster, he is 29 now, if he was destined to play at a much higher level he would have by now. Like I said he is conference level squad payer in my view.

I'd have offered Iffy Allen something too. He makes the game look simple and just breezed past players every time he received the ball, he made Tranmere really panic when he came on. Maybe he's a bad trainer though and if so, not the kind you need, but only Keates will know that.

It's not really an indication of much. I get your general point though.
They were mainly younger than Rutherford, more up and coming in general.

Awful in the middle but showed signs of ability out wide. I'll judge him properly when he has played a number of games in his only natural position. I'll judge Keates if he plays him anywhere else.

Agree - Dave-o rated Mark Beck so thats how much notice I'd take of his opinions. I mean FFS Mark Beck. One of the worst players I have ever seen. Those opinions must come from happy clapping cloud cuckoo land.

As for Rutherford he's all huff and no puff. Yes he runs around alot but from what I've seen that's about it. Might aswell buy a dog.

Always happy to be proved wrong but his career so far suggests that is unlikely to happen.

Rutherford is a Chester/Southport quality player. As in, lower Conference National/North quality player.
