Don't forget to subtract McNulty's catering expenses from Tranmere's budget.. around £200k per annum I believe.

Micky Mellon: Tranmere boss wants three National League promotion places

Micky Mellon guided Tranmere to a second-placed finish in the National League
Tranmere manager Micky Mellon thinks that the promotion system to the Football League needs to change.

Tranmere will remain in the National League after losing 3-1 to Forest Green in Sunday's promotion final at Wembley.

They finished nine points ahead of Forest Green and four points behind champions Lincoln, but failed to secure an immediate return to League Two.

"It's easy for me to say it is unfair but we know the rules at the start of the season," said 45-year-old Mellon.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "Looking at it broader than that, would I say that there has to be two automatic and one from the play-offs? Yes.

"I think there are teams in the Football League who are just hanging on and don't have the ambition of many of the teams who are in the National League.

"But that's not for me to decide, that's for somebody else."

How Much was Lincoln's Budget in 2016/17? I bet it was similar if not less than ours, but a Good Management structure, wily player recruitment, organisation and team spirit boded them well in the fact that they reached the promised land. Now with the return of Darlo in unison with DK, Andy & Dan in the dugout, we can equally be as optimistic about our chances next season.

we dont far exceed it.. and the potential overspend im refering to is from teams with multi million pound owners at the helm.

difference is we "try" to stay within our budget whereas a lot of teams have no intention of sticking to it.. and will far far outspend their income to try buy promotion.

in that list id guess we was quite far down the order or richness.

I don't think we do try not to exceed it, rather we aim to exceed it.

I meant that in the way that we set a cautious budget based on prior seasons gates etc, with the hope that, when results and attendances/revenues are better than previous, then we can invest extra into the squad on a promotion push.

Certainly that's my hope for the coming season:
A sensible but improved budget to start.
Gates and revenues up in line with good results.
Extra investments as we push towards the line.

A run in the fa cup would be nice, seems an age since Brighton
