I'm not sure I agree with the change.

But surely it increases our chances of promotion.

Yes there is a chance of being beaten by a team who finished well behind you. But on the flip side we could be that side and it gives us a realistic chance of promotion every season.

It increases our chances of making the play-offs. The chances of getting promoted are still the same.

Obviously this is good news for us. Personally, I'm a huge fan of play off football. Keeps the season going longer for many and then plenty of drama to be has once their underway. Nerve jangling if your in them, highly enjoyable if your not as this season's league play offs are showing so far.

In fairness the amount of promotion spaces to the FL league is an issue out of the hands of the conf .

They are doing what they can with this measure, but we all know that the FL need to introduce that 3rd relegation spot in L2

Of course this is all dependent on us finishing in the top 7 and we havent done that for such a long time

Personally, I'd prefer the struggle to stay in L2 to the struggle of getting there.

My guess is they are doing this to keep as much interest in the league placings. for as long as possible - a team fighting for 7th place could have another 4, 5 , 6 teams vying for that place right up to the end of the league season - maintains a high interest, keeps crowd attendances up and money coming in through the turnstiles for club's whose season could otherwise have been deemed 'dead' by March. So good for the majority.

However, it doesn't do much for the integrity of the league - playing 46 games in an effort to establish the best two teams to go up and strengthen L2 - more often than not the stronger quality teams do prevail in the end though. Still makes a nonsense of gaining a record points total and coming in second but not going up (Tranmere and us) but what's the alternative ?

Should be a minimum of at least one more automatic promotion place.

The real problem is only 2 going up.
I know the play offs are here to stay but extending those in it down to 7th is a joke.
It is likely to result in a team going up that is not ready at the expense of a team that has had a good season.
