Safe to say Rutherford isn't a striker though. He's a winger although Keates had him playing centrally in a diamond because he didn't want to play wingers; presumably because he didn't overly rate of midfielders to control a game.
Thanks Alan for staying on topic (take note skip) and bringing sanity to the thread. I mean, Rutherford a striker ffs.

if we have a right side of Carrington and Rutherford prepare to be disappointed.

Just wait and see who Keates signs to play up front.

I think we need a target man, and at the risk of sounding like Wilkin someone who can play with their back to the goal. A bit of craft. A bully maybe. Matt Rhead would be perfect.

We also need some pace, but direct pace. Someone to play in a front three and get behind defences.

And a finisher. Some players with good scoring records down here are currently free.

Those would give us a few different tactical options and would fit into 443 and 433 in different configurations.

I've got faith Keates knows what he wants and I'm looking forward to seeing who he brings in.

Has Keates given any indication of playing 4-3-3?

The squad he's compiling looks more like 4-4-2 so we do need a couple of strikers more, ideally.

We don't want to be going into the season with just Holroyd and A N Other.

I'm hoping to have my socks blown off with the signing of a striker. Cassidy wouldn't do that! He'd be my ideal 3rd striker.

I think he said he wants to go 433, but be able to interchange to 442 if need be.

If Morrell said that, he'd be accused of being indecisive or dithering over formations.

As Keates is within his period of grace, he's being flexible over his formation.
