Since I started watching in the 1960's there is one player who stands out - a fantastic goal scoring record but an even better rapport with the fans - a pure entertainer.
When he first started we lost 4 - 0 at York City - at the final whistle ten players walked straight down the tunnel - one single player ran over to the away end by himself and applauded the travelling away support - I thought from that moment we had something special. There have of course been many great players spanning the different generations - as a kid I thought Eddie May was actually a giant - xxxxxxxx massive mountain of a man. Blessed to have watched the likes of Ashcroft, Whittle, Thomas, Jones, Mcneil..............but for me it has to be Garry Bennett. |
