I agree, but also I haven't felt so confident pre season for years.
Keates was a great player, and with Darlington to guide could become a great manager with time and patience.
He could be the one to take us up in the next few years...

The signings give us hope, let's see how the team gel and whether DK has the ability to change the formation and alter the course of games. The drafting in of Darlington suggests Keates is looking to learn. Having seen a quite one dimensional side under him at the end of last season, I am glad he appears to be humble enough to bring in someone who should give him some technical and tactical help. This isn't too say that the performances last season under Keates were all tactically inept, just that he is learning and had few options; not many of whom were that good.

Our signings thus far have been excellent. It looks like we may have fitness and coaching. None of that counts for anything. We will need luck with injuries and to hope that at least 3 of the teams with money screw up as well just to make the play offs.

As it stands the average age of the squad is considerably above that of every team who have been champions in our time. I don't see us coming anywhere near winning the thing. We simply have a better chance of the playoffs than we have for 4 years.

Of equal importance will be entertaining and seeing gates rise. Also, a good season may be the difference between good young players choosing us or going elsewhere next season.

So, I see this as a transitional season with a squad that ensures we're at least not discussing relegation. If we can tickle the play offs then all well and good but the idea that this season (like so many others) will be shit or bust needs killing. We have cause for optimism. Let's enjoy it and not heap unnecessary pressure on.

I want to disagree with you and say you're just a miserable twat! But I think you may be correct. Just hope people don't get on keates back when we aren't 10 points clear in October.

Good signings and fitness and coaching don't count for anything ?

I disagree on that one !

Additionally you don't need to be world beaters to get into the top 7 in the National League. We won't be world beaters but we will make the top 7 in my opinion...comfortably. We may well not be promoted but we will be challenging for promotion this year..not tickling.

God help him if the team take time to gel. Anything less than an 80% win rate will see some calling for his head
