This is one reason why the length of Keates' contract matters. There is absolutely no way that he will be sacked at any point this season and probably not next season either, so there is no point anybody talking about that regardless of results, which frankly ought to be vastly superior to this time a year ago anyway. The club saw a need to lock a manager in and have done so, and a disappointing start should only be talked about in nuts and bolts football terms.

Is it really?

Who told you that?

Twenty plus years of listening to moany fans blather on about what the club should have done six months ago tells me that. Plus there being not a scrap of complaint about Mills' terrible methods when the team won compared to fans finally analysing this when the team was losing shows that many fans only go route one, winning creates messiahs and losing means every decision to get there must be wrong. We're giving Keates time and that might mean waiting for success - you reckon if Mills had gone to Tranmere while we did this would have been greeted with anything but "no ambition"? Afraid not.

We probably will take time to gel and even in the last 2 seasons there were times when we were within touching distance of the play offs , so with a better squad we should be in the top 7.

It's an absolute testament to Keates' recruitment that there seems to be an expectation of Top 7 now.

Personally, I'd be delighted to finish 7th next season given the dross we have had to put up with over the last few seasons (barring a couple of months in Mills' first season)

I agree there would have been a meltdown however I doubt the board are swayed by a few hot heads on here. Mills record when we went for him was ok and his Gateshead team usually schooled us in terms of the football played. At the time he seemed like the stand out obvious choice.

What on earth went on whilst he was here is still a bit of a mystery that clearly totally embarrassed the board hence why people walked with egg on their face.

Agreed - well said - for me Keates has earned some breathing space - if things don't go immediately to plan - we need to be patient

Absolutely.

Just hope expectations haven't been raised too much.

Not after a witch hunt here but, no apology from the football board either, in any business mistakes can be made but you're still accountable.
