I appreciate you are probably playing devil's advocate. However, if we follow your argument through, all investment in Wales should go directly to Cardiff, because it has the biggest population, and the rest of Wales should get no investment at all. That's really not a practical idea.

The only North v South divide in this instance is the council's ability to get things done.
Examples?
The Millennium Stadium
The Cardiff City Stadium
The Liberty Stadium
The proposed new events arenas in Cardiff and Newport

All involved public money

If you're creating a museum, it makes sense to have it in a town or city where visitors frequent unless it's specifically related to that town/city.

I'd have thought the foundation of the FAW in Wrexham, the town being the organisation's HQ for a century, and the Racecourse still being the ground that has hosted more Wales internationals than any other would constitute "specific to that town/city".

So all museums in the UK, unless specifically related to a certain town or city, should be in London in your view?

Problem is though, people from south Wales would have to travel up to north Wales, but their is no decent rail or road service to the North so it will be located in the south.
Drove under the railway bridge on the bypass the other day..,Thought to myself, it surely wouldn't have cost that much to make it a bit wider, just in case they ever wanted to double the track again.....Sorry..drifting off topic here....and I know it was Clwyd County Council's decision...But it does show, Councillors can be useless at times....

The specific point you made was around the WG, not public money in general.

In response

1 - the Millennium Stadium was virtually built before the WG existed. The Millennium Commission paid approx £45m of the £120m cost. The remaining £75m was paid for by private investment and WRU loans.

2 - As for the Cardiff City Stadium, it is based on land the council owns. They have given it on a 125 year nominal lease to Cardiff City. In response to this, the football club agreed to build a new athletics stadium just north of this. On completion of the new athletics stadium, Cardiff City gained the 125-year rent-free lease. On the land they developed the new Cardiff City stadium and retail park. This, and the money made from selling Ninian Park for housing, paid for the stadium.

3 - the Liberty Stadium was funded by a retail development close by to the stadium.

4- the WG hasn't confirmed they are investing in the Cardiff Arena, they've just said it's vital.

As I said - the two biggest issues for us are 1) not owning the ground and 2) WCBC.

Try and find a chip for the other shoulder.

What are your comments based on? Public spending in some individual Cardiff constituencies is higher than what is spent in the whole of North East Wales combined. Yet Flintshire has a higher GVA than Cardiff, which suggests that more public money would be better spent in "parochial' North Esat Wales.

The original whinge was based on the WG not spending money on a stadia in N.Wales but falling over themselves to pay for stadia in the South. As I've demonstrated, that is patently not true.

It's all about the councils. What are WCBC doing for this football club? Nothing. Contrast that with what the councils in South Wales did for their respective football teams:

* Cardiff Council gave Cardiff City land at a knock off price so they could build their stadium and use proceeds of a retail development to contribute towards the costs of stadium.

* Swansea Council let the football club have the proceeds of a retail development on council land that paid for the Liberty.

WCBC did their best to let our club die.

I am not saying that N.Wales shouldn't get more investment generally but it is completely wrong for posters on here to whinge that WAFC are not getting freebies from the WG while major sports teams down here are. It's completely not true.

Until our fanbase grasps that the answer is closer to home, we'll not get anywhere with a new stand. Too many take the easy route out and blame the WG in Cardiff.
