Default Re: Radio Wales coverage for new season

Can we assume that in 5 years time when we are promoted to the Championship and Swansea and Cardiff are relegated to the conference that our coverage will be renewed and they will lose their coverage. I think not.

They always sort of had problems though with the phone connection during games if you remember , strangely cutting out at times , surprising in this day and age , maybe something to do with it .

I expect some of the basics to be correct, such as players names and team names Especially from the so called professionals, it's nothing to do with telling it how it is, we know if we are rubbish or not.

There are some good commentators and there are some who sound like they don't want to be there, the good ones tend to move up the ladder, for example Jason Perry rarely covers our games now, he seems to be covering Cardiff or Swansea more often which is understandable.

When we've had people like David Hughes (ex Villa) and Iwan Roberts commentating it's been fine, they actually know a bit about the lower divisions. Rob Phillips is very good and he engages on Social Media a lot, there are probably a few more that I've forgot!

Ian Walsh I always enjoyed listening to as I got the feeling he wanted Wrexham to do well and had no axe to grind at all. When they do it well I let them know about it and when they struggle I let them know about it too, bearing in mind these aren't actually Volunteers but paid people. If we are going to apply scrutiny towards the volunteers that help our football club through the season then it's the least to expect scrutiny towards people that get paid to commentate on something as magical as football (regardless of how poor the game is).

How could you forget Ratboy, Legg and of course Mickey!

Mickey is OTT pro Wrexham which I love, and always a great listen.

Ratboy is a really moody pundit who always finds it difficult to praise Wrexham. He doesn't pull any punches when we are poor.

Legg is just negative towards Wrexham, probably due to the fact he has applied and failed to land the manager role a few times. Some of his comments about El Delano last season, questioning his appointment were just bitter.

You're right about Ian Walsh...Someone asked him who he hoped would win the Play off final with Newport....His reply was ..Well I'm not going to make many friends here..But for the sake of Welsh football...I hope it's Wrexham

I've liked him ever since.....Even if he was wrong..

Im no fan Ratcliffe but last season he was spot on about the issues we were having on the pitch.

Well if there still doing the online commentaries at least I can get them when im on holiday.

I am sure most discerning Radio Wales listeners would regard Micky Thomas' football punditry abilities as a joke! Andy Legg, in my opinion, has far more depth while Kevin Ratcliffe tells it as he sees it. Ian Walsh for me is the best pundit with Rob Phillips far and away the best commentator.

I remember when Colin Addison used to co-commentate and I thought he was good, bearing in mind his experience of the higher levels and the lower levels.
