Two bids in, news today or tomorrow. If these fail then it's likely a loan signing.

I can only assume the failed bid was for Cook so that move is now dead in the water, even though it was pretty much dead weeks ago.

It will look like we might get a striker in on loan instead, which is likely to suggest that if they are of a decent calibre it won't be from a team in our league so the likes of Rhead, Dennis or Bowman remain a possibility.

It might make sense for the parent club to sanction a loan as if the striker starts banging them in they can recall him to their team, unless we are canny enough to demand non recall clauses!

If the permanent deals have fallen through or hit a hitch and a loan deal is the way forward now, it shouldn't take too long to thrash out, so I'm hopeful there will be movement before Saturday.

Just hope any move is pretty early this week as we know what havoc the dreaded 'international clearance' can play

Why? That would be an odd move.

Whilst it's less than ideal to not have your side completed going in to the final few days before your first game, we still could make an unexpected or surprise signing over the next few weeks.

Players may be unhappy at not being in a starting X1 and so end up wanting to move on.

Although we all recognise we need another forward, so does Keates, so he may have a look at players who become available in the early weeks of the season.
