I agree that there shouldn't be more technology. The confederation cup was a farce with TV replays. Not sure what this has to with this sensible change though?

As for Neymar. When you see Kyle Walker costing 50m and Lukaku 90m, Neymar looks like a steal.

Goal line technology was very much needed though. Support for refs is a good thing. They get far too much abuse for what they do.

At least footballing ability still wins the day that way
Disagree. After 120 minutes clubs have already had enough of a chance to separate themselves. Penalties show ability to perform under intense pressure, shooting accuracy and goalkeeping ability. There's a reason England always lose their shootouts and some nations always seem to win theirs. If it was a 'lottery' as some often say, then all teams/nations would have a (roughly) 50/50 record in shootouts.

I originally dismissed this as a pointless change but if it's been proven that going 1st under the current system is a clear advantage (and one that genuinely is decided by the toss of a coin), then it seems a sensible update to the rules.

If it is the case that going 1st is such an advantage (can't be much of a benefit if you miss your 1st penalty) then surely the issue is the fact that this perceived advantage is decided by a coin toss. Change this rather than mess with the whole format. 1st team to score in normal time gets first penalty, in 0-0 the team with the least cards etc

I agree. Goal line tech is probably the best innovation in the PL era.

Football couldn't exist without referees. They are human, make mistakes, and tech can help diminish these mistakes

I think the whole point is that there shouldn't be an advantage to any team in a penalty shootout. It's a huge advantage to give a team the first penalty purely because they've had fewer cards.
This ABBA system in tennis tie breaks has an almost 50/50 outcome and frankly isn't that much of a big change

I'd argue what you're suggesting is a bigger change than what you're complaining about!

The advantage is a purely irrational psychological one. If it exists then it's for the highly paid prima donnas to sort it out in their heads and change their mindset. After changing this they will be looking at other perceived advantages and changing ends after every kick so the kick takers are facing their own fans.

I'm arguing there is no need to change but those wanting change seem to complain that the 'advantage' is won with the toss of a coin and that is what is unfair. Those were just examples to eradicate the coin toss and base the first kick on something football related that had occurred during the game
