Can't see Marx starting when we could have Carrington or Hurst at right back with Roberts moved to centre back, personally. I feel that Roberts will be our cover in the middle this season ahead of Marx if Pearson is out, which isn't a knock against the former's abilities but, rather, a communication issue in the middle if Pearson is missing.

The worrying over Marx on this forum is ridiculous. The lad is 18 he is going to make mistakes but so will Manny Smith and Pearson throughout the season. They would not be playing at this level otherwise. He was terrific in some games he played last season, and I'm sure he will be the same this season. Just give the lad a break and show him some support instead of doubting him, no wonder not many players make it from our youth if the fans get on there back after a couple of mistakes in pre season!

Can't disagree with any of this. He showed fantastic maturity at times last season for an 18 year centre half. It's probably the hardest position for a teenager to slot into and probably needs a bit of protection but at his age he should develop quickly and should only get better with games. What do they say if you are good enough you are old enough. If we are serious about developing our own, we need a manager who shows some faith in his kids. We are all praying on Pearson being fit because of his importance but if has to be Marx, then I'm sure he will do fine.

I hope you haven't misconstrued my thoughts for a mistrust of Marx. I like him well enough and I always hope to see products of our academy succeed, I just want to see us play to the squad's, and therefore the youth's, strengths.

No not from your post, although i do disagree and think Keates won't be playing Roberts at centre back unless Pearson and Smith are both out. Marx will be the 3rd choice centre back. Ive just seen quite a few posts lately putting Marx down as some kind of liability which he is far from being.
