Just tongue in cheek the gelled thing , but maybe at least the players and Keates know very early on that they have to work harder if they want top 5 , this does happen to teams who can go on and improve .

First competitive game together, playing on the pitch for the first time, playing in the ground as a home player for the first time, in front of a crowd that in some cases was 3 or 4 times the size they're used to, I just thought the occasion got to them, we've seen them all perform better in the pre season, we know their pedigree, give it a little time.

Well said, all big factors in the result that many will fail to take into account, the league isn't won or lost on the first day of the season!

Everyone knew that was coming I'm surprised 6000 tuned up but we always do get a good crowd first day but this time we were not prepared. We struggled along through preseason and never really looked like we could finish off lower league teams, I was out of my seat once yesterday that's how little we created.

4. - not to see Manny pump hopeful balls forward to lightweight forwards.
5. - our first choice keeper not being able to make a routine save.

Still great to see 6K plus there and they deserve better.
100% on the nail

Do you mean unprepared because of who we've played pre-season or do you mean we haven't put the work in?
They've had plenty of time, and played teams at varying levels not too dissimilar to our league. We knew we couldn't play any games at home. Who did everyone expect us to play? United away? When you play teams from higher leagues you invariably play against some of their U21/youth anyway so it turns out to be ineffective preparation anyway.

I would have personally liked to have seen different formations tried and given more time for partnerships (Pearson & Smith for example) to develop and be refined - that would be my main criticism of this pre-season.

Who we played in those preseason games is A major part of it, also not being able to play at home. They completely built a new team also but looked like they had been together much longer and like you say we never gave time to partnerships during preseason. We looked like we had the players run around 9 acre for the last 6 weeks.

I expect us to play league 2 teams. They are the closest to the teams at the top of our league.
