Re: BBC Wales radio coverage daily post
The commentary may not always be of the standard we would like but the point is that we are being discriminated against because of our league status and probably our geographical location. Should we gain FL status next season, would we back on FM? Would the other three clubs playing in the English leagues have received the same treatment were they in our situation?
I know Newport County fans have had to make do with on-line commentary in the past but i don't know what their situation is as regards commentary this year. When I travel from Llanelli to Wrexham, I need to retune my AM frequency from 882 to 657 after Newtown. Why cannot this facility be used on Saturday afternoons? |

Re: BBC Wales radio coverage daily post
I defend the BBC a lot, but the coverage of Wrexham in recent years has been shocking. With a number of notable exceptions, we have often been left with a commentator and / or "summariser" who cares little for the club and is clearly a bit sore that they didn't get given the Swansea or Cardiff game to cover that week. I get a real sense from some that they are going through the motions, and that it is simply "their turn" to grit their teeth and get through the long drive and the non-league football.
Basic factual errors, repeated mispronunciations, long conversations about Cardiff, Swansea, Liverpool, Manchester United or Chelsea during play, and no real sense of passion or enthusiasm have been the hallmarks of the Radio Wales coverage recently. Compare that with the enthusiasm, passion and depth of knowledge from the Calon FM team. I had hoped the BBC might see the increased competition from Calon as an opportunity to up their game and appoint a permanent Wrexham reporter / commentator (as many local radio stations do for clubs even at Conference level). But instead, they have gone in the opposite direction, retreating from the club. It's a real shame, but all we can do is tune into Calon FM in droves to show the BBC how we respond when things are done properly. I know that among senior producers, there will be a collective shrug of the shoulders to these complaints and this petition ... that is, until the next internal review in a couple of years when (with much wringing of hands about "reaching out to communities"), the North will suddenly be on the agenda again and it will all change.

Re: BBC Wales radio coverage daily post
By 2020 most BBC local radio stations won't be doing any commentary at all.
Most evening and weekend programmes will be shared with other stations, slightly different for Radio Wales, but their model is still the same. There just isn't the money and the priority will always be news first across the BBC. People need to remember that we are a non league team. Only a handful of stations send reporters to non league games now, and even fewer broadcast non league commentary on the radio..If any? We're lucky to have Calon FM as the BBC is being forced to cut more and more of its budget. Posted via mobile theme |

Herein lies the problem Huffy. As good as Calon FM no doubt is, it only has a 5km range. large parts of the borough never mind the rest of North Wales will have no service. |
