This is looking like more than a blip. The side lacks balance and shape our best central defender left out to keep in McEverley who is both slow and cannot defend balls in the air.One man up front with no service. We have started the season with four games that any champion contenders would have seen as an easy start and in three of those games we have looked no better than the opposition.
Forget excuses about pay policy,we pay more than any of the teams we have played thus far.Nor can we blame referees .The reason we have just five points is down to our shambolic performance on the pitch

At present this looks not only a worse side than we finished with last year but it also looks a worse side than when Brabin was fired.

Unless this is sorted soon I dread to think what will happen when we play some of the teams that are not among the favourites for relegation

Surprising result for The Tramps with their so called fire power!
Once they click into gear they will be fine, It's just whether they have enough to win the league. And look at Leyton Orient getting tonked 6-1.

WE should, his tactics were so bad for most of the game, but got out of jail with Reid. I think it going to be a long hard winter unless he changes formation/tactics. You had a job to see where a goal would come from until Reid's late performance.

Mike

Massanka found himself in 2 places tonight. Nowhere and offside. His runs are appalling and this bollocks that's being spouted from some people that he would benefit if the passes came a second sooner needs to stop. If this was the case, he should either adapt his game to make his runs at different times or speak to the players if they're not picking up on his runs.

TTFT, I thought I was going nuts,

Masanka is putting effort in but we are not playing to his strengths, his biggest asset is his pace so it is no use playing the ball to his feet ( plenty on here will tell you he is useless with his back to goal and can't control the ball), stick the ball 10 yards ahead of him so that he can run onto it and that will get the opposition filling their pants. Several times tonight when he was waiting to be played in and the simple defense splitting pass wasn't made. Admittedly there were as many times when the pass was made that he was caught offside so he needs to work on that and realise that he can afford to give defenders a yard and still beat them for pace.

I've seen Boden twice or that is to say I've watched the two home games and hadn't really noticed him in either tbh and listened to the commentary to both away matches and he has hardly been mentioned.
We picked up a bit when Boden was replaced by Reid, I don't think that that was because the team changed how they were playing but more likely that we had a fresh lad on the pitch who knew how to get at the opposition.

Boden is still getting to match fitness and at least has a football brain. Massanka is just rubbish , thankfully his loan is up in January.

1st game I have seen this season and still trying to work out who is who and where they play first half was awful couldn't tackle, put 2 passes together, was so slow, no creativity no determination, hunger or battle 2nd half the same until the lad Reid came on and seemed to increase the pace hunger and finished a gifted goal well

Some of the points the players have been given baffle me but everyone has an opinion

Dunn (7) Earned his corn in the second-half. Needs to improve his kicking.

Roberts (6) Solid defensively but yet to get forward effectively. Took some clattering tackles. Can only improve.

M Smith (8) Won just about everything. A few wayward passes and headers but that's due to lack of movement by others. My MOTM once again.

Pearson (7) Good captain and leads the line well.

Jennings (3) Poor and stupid! He is our defensive weak-link.

MacKreth (3) Poor and hardly in the game.

Carrington (6) He did all that was required of him but has no ability to get past their midfielders.

Wedgbury (7) Mopped up most threats and worked hard.

Kelly (4) Has ability but no pace. He's not a winger.

Boden (4) Had one half chance before his substitution but took one touch too many. Hopefully better to come but still looks ring rusty, which is a worry.

Massanka (5) Frustrating, I know. Can't really win the ball in the air and gets caught offside. However, we are not playing good balls on the ground for him to run onto.

Subs:

Reid (7) Great debut. Changed the whole game and took his goal well. Great signing by DK.

Rutherford (5) Busy.

Hurst (4) Clumsy.

2 mid-table teams going through the motions after only 4 games. Not good. DK has stayed loyal to some underperforming players but now needs to have a rethink. Understand why folk criticise Carrington but, in this set-up, any creativity is supposed to come from the wingers. Last night, Kelly and MacKreth were again poor. However, our worst performing player remains Jennings; he needs to grow up and get a grip.

I found our misuse of throw-ins very frustrating. These are all things that need addressing on the training ground. I think that L Smith and Wright deserve a start, and 4-4-2 clearly isn't working.

Thankfully, Reid's display got us out of gaol but, fundamentally, our whole is currently much less than the individuals. Must buck up and do better!

Another great attendance, by the way!

Looking at some knowledgable posters it's clear we're not playing to Massankas strengths.

Come on Keates, mix it up a bit! Disappointed with how Kelly seems to be getting on.

There is still plenty of hoofing going on, which is inevitable as we are not good enough to play it on the floor. So we still need a big man.

We seem to have 4 strikers who need to play alongside a big man.
