This is a good point. I also think Massanka was made to look poor at times due to his runs either not being seen or anticipated by some of the other players.

If this observation is correct, then its something that hopefully will improve the more they play together, but I believe its wrong to single out Massanka as the problem.

At this stage I don't think we will be hard to beat. I'm not getting too carried away with the clean sheet last night. We rode our luck and were hanging on at the end. Dunn made two excellent saves as well.

Hopefully our defence will get better as the season progresses.

It's easy for me to say it was the better decision in hindsight, however I just thought he looked more likely to score than Boden. Maybe that was due to the way the attack was set up or the fact that most of attacks were from deep and we were trying to play the ball in behind.

At the time of the sub, I thought Gateshead were looking the more threatening side and keeping Massanka on would limit the number of players they could commit.

What do you think?

Agree totally. Massanka is the only Wrexham player with a home assist against his name this season! Th tactical change when Reid (and Rutherford) came on gave us more width and Massanka's pointless job as central target man (beaten every time in the air by their strong centre back) made all the difference - and won us the game. Massanka and Reid looked as if they had played together before as they soon gelled as an attacking unit not just a couple of players in red shirts who happened to be playing together.
A big lesson in playing to individual strengths within a team game will hopefully be well noted by Dean and Carl.
Massanka and Reid must lead the line come Saturday.

I felt Boden was being forced to drop deep to collect the ball, which limited his effectiveness... I don't think that was his fault, merely an issue with our midfield supply.

Massanka was making runs but he was miles offside, beaten easily in the air, and was beaten off the ball easily by defenders. At the time I felt he was having a much worse game... but hindsight is 20/20

Hes had that issue every match, that or hes getting pulled out wide.

I agree, and I think its because he doesn't have the support from the midfield. He has to go searching for the ball, meaning we lose a man up top, and thus makes it harder for us to create any chances because we only have one person available up top...

A creative midfielder, who can occupy that space for Boden, would allow him to actually play as a striker.

I must admit I have seen this McCreth name on here a few times and thought he was either a youth player of a signing I missed.
