We need a Penn type player.
Wedgebury looked the better player.

Naughty but, enjoyed Wedgbury wiping out Penn after he'd kicked (I think) Jennings. Seemed to me like he just let him know there would be retribution if he played that game. Wedgbury for me all day long. Penn faded in games, Wedgbury has the better engine.

Penn type player - not Penn.
We need someone that can hold the ball and start passing movements.
Current midfield think the ball is a hot potato and cant wait to get rid.

Griffiths, Sutton, the on loan Ian Arkwright, Billy Ronson, Mike Lake, Ward, Ferguson, Keates ? Any of them would do. The problem is that these players come round once in a blue moon.

I haven't seen us play yet, but could Kelly perform this role in a middle 3 a la Ferguson?

It sounds like DK wants the 2 mf players to hold, and hit on the break using pace so perhaps not likely to see this.

Penn's prompting and leadership enabled Gateshead to control the first half. He had a fine game and his surprising substitution was a game changer. He looked fitter and slimmer last night. I wish he was in our team.

I think our lack of quality in possession allowed Gateshead to get on top first half in particular. I think too many are yet to reach any sort of form, but it is always a positive winning whilst not playing well and may bode well if/when we get the likes of Roberts, Jennings, Kelly, Mackreth & Boden finding some form. It won't happen overnight, but if we can grind out some results or Reid continues to provide that spark, hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

Don't think so, he strikes me as too lightweight for a midfield player and needs to be wider. However, on the left he hasn't got the pace to get past people and and ends up cutting on to his weaker foot. Maybe he would be more effective on the right hand side and cutting in on his left foot.
