We've not been without success this decade, Phil although some/many see success as promotion and not just reaching the playoffs and Trophy finals.

Small success and short lived which the club failed to build on resulting in us going backwards.

But this talk of being stable off the pitch is meaningless to a lot of fans who judge us solely on what happens on the pitch.

I wouldn't bank on its popularity in a vote.
Fan ownership as a concept is the only one that gets judged for failure. Private ownership is not deemed a failure for the grim 80s or for relegation from the league, it is only a few individuals who get the flak. It's interesting that fan ownership can only be improved with "investment" according to some but private owners just need to sell to more private owners while the model remains bulletproof. It's pretty narrow minded and selective.

Success on the pitch? In 150 years we have had 5 promotions (1961/62, 1969/70, 1977/78, 1992/93 and 2002/03)

We would have been relegated to the non-league in 1991 if relegation had occurred that season so we could have been playing non league football since 1991/92.

To understand the position we're in, you have to look backwards. Being separated from the stadium and land will seriously deter any investors. There's nothing to invest in.

I've got no issues with people judging us by our on-field performances. That's football, after all.

But you have to consider when we were considered to be successful between say 95 and 2005; where did our money come from to pay the likes of Fergie or the lads from Trinidad. The only serious money we received was for Yozza and I understand that was used to pay off the training ground.

^^^^^^
This fans what ever club they support want firstly to be entertained go to a game and have the adrenaline pumping with attractive attacking football, basically fans want to see goals, not been boredom rigid watching poor players playing for a draw or a sneaked win at home, the old saying the best form of defence is attack.

Too many seasons now since we have been fan owned we have watched turd football, except for the Saunders team left Morrell and the first 3 months of Mills reign which blew up at Xmas.

10 seasons down here longest club in the division mainly through poor choices at management level & lack of money to compete with sugar daddy teams, even this season players who have joined said they have taken a paycut.

Yes stability off the pitch is extremely important offer course it is, but to a lottery offer Joe Blogs fans they are only interested in what's served up on the pitch and the club showing ambition for promotion, they are blind to where's the money coming from.

On this forum such a vote may be close, but take it to the wider fan base and I have no doubt the majority would vote in favour.

There are still many who don't believe in trust ownership and another good chunk who have had enough of bouncing around mid table of the National league with little hope of that ever changing.

but those years playing at a higher level are successful seasons though, arent they?

It was hard work to get relegated then, and the system behind wasn't as strong. Plus it wasn't fan ownership that saw that run of years at a higher level end.
