Default Why not Wrexham?

While I am not a great believer in sugar daddy ownership, with all the ‘investors’ at all levels of the game why do we think no one has seriously looked at Wrexham over the last 10 years. In the recent past the ground ownership could have been a barrier but we now have a long term lease in place, as per other threads we have the highest home attendance in the league and in the event of reaching league one or the championship gates of 10,000 may be achievable. (Depending on ground development)

Some will say the state of the ground and the money required to make 'MY RACECOURSE into a premier stadium is a barrier but given that single players are going for £200m and someone is considering building an 8,000 capacity stadium in Oswestry. Given the recent success of the concert and the potential to make the stadium a beacon for major events for North Wales and the North West, is this really a significant barrier.

On the playing side North Wales used to be a hot bed for developing footballing talent, Mark Hughes, Ian Rush, Kevin Ratcliffe, Joey and Mickey how many players from the area are now playing at the top level, is the raw talent still out there for any potential investor in our football club to tap into.
Back to the original question why do we think no one as seriously looked at Wrexham as a good ‘investment’ opportunity over the last 10 years?

PS I am and will remain a supporter of Wrexham Supporters Trust.

North Wales is still a hotbed of footballing talent, but the way football works now the best youngsters go to clubs like Manchester United and City, Liverpool or Everton before they get anywhere near our senior teams, if we even have them at all.

In terms of the the overarching question, there are many other clubs who could also ask this question. I think the truth is that there aren't many benevolent backers with deep pockets about. They stand out because he majority of owners, even the good ones, are not willing to shovel money at clubs. I think you see it a lot more in non league because the outlay is less and if it all goes wrong the fallout is far less vocal.

That said it's not out of the question that someone with money behind them and the right intentions may come along. I hope we seriously consider it if it happens. But in the meantime we are where we are.

I am 100% in favour of our current ownership model.

I am equally keen to keep an open mind on alternatives which could make us more competitive.

We are very much part of the National League now (been in it longer than any other current Club?) and we are showing no signs of challenging for promotion. It looks as though Dean has been a bit naïve in the transfer market and we have yet to see any impact from Darlington but on both counts these are early days.

My concerns are that we still give starts to players who are only average at best and to those who, quite simply, are not good enough. I do however believe we can improve and even with these players employ better tactics which can edge us a few wins.

I think it's only a matter of time before someone buys into the club in some way. I think this is the next step to take us out of this league. Without extra money it's going to be extremely difficult

And that's what worries me. With BTB, Dean probably won't get as much cash as he has now to get promoted. While the squad is decent, without extra cash to build on I think we're going to be languishing here for far longer than we'd like.

Since when have people seen football as an investment opportunity?

I suppose Alex Hamilton did...

We have little no assets and that's why we are not such an attractive buy in.

Yep agree. Whilst 50k is an outstanding amount to raise it's simple not enough. The years under WST ownership tell the story, we can get close but it's never quite enough.
I wonder whether we'll ever be able to get back to where we once were i.e. League one
