Default Who needs goals?

1966/67 was an excellent year for north west clubs in the 'old' Division Four.

Stockport County were champions, also elected were Southport, Barrow and Tranmere Rovers.

Stockport were clear winners yet scored only 69 goals throughout the season. Yet they amassed (if it were 3 points for a win) 90 points.

By compassion, we were 7th, having scored 76 goals. Our attendance was the second highest, after Stockport, with an average of 8,502.

I don't think we have anything like enough goals in the current team but if the defence can maintain their form and clean sheets we will have every chance of being in the mix at the end of the season.

Note: Eleven of the teams in Div.4 in that year are now in the National League or below, including the four promoted!

I agree , if we dont concede we dont lose , but we all like to see goals , dont know if this team has 3 goals in them though

Back then there wasn't 3 points for a win which makes the difference between drawing games and winning them much more significant now.....and without goals in your locker you draw more games than you win, which will not get you promoted.

In the 99/00 season Swansea only scored 51 goals. Stevie Watkin was their top scorer with 11 yet they won the Third Division with 85 points. Success is possible with a low scoring team but I think unlikely nowadays.

We sit 3rd , 4 clean sheets in a row. Hes built from the back which is not a bad idea.

Just taken a gander at league tables in late 60's.
66/67 was a turnaround from previous season as were bottom, but 66/67 we were unbeaten at home.
In fact the Racecourse did become a fortress in late 60's with only 6 home defeates between 66/67 and 69/70,
66/67 undefeated
67/68 lost 3
68/69 lost 3
69/70 undefeated

A.C. Milan won the league in 1994 by scoring just 36 goals in 34 games and conceding 15 goals.

Can Manny Maldini and Shauni Baresi do the same?
