I don't think he's the best but he's certainly not the worst in our side, he is effective. Already has a few assists, works hard and he always tries to be positive from what I see. Just another scapegoat he is. |

Re: Have any players improved?
I believe Rutherford has improved from last season - he looks sharper and maybe the arrival of Mackreth has made him fight for his place more - we actually paid Bury a fee for Mackreth who has been disappointing, but given the choice I would play Rutherford ahead of him every time.

Re: Have any players improved?
I think it is a confidence issue with Rutherford. He was always busy last season, always prepared to graft, but we were a poor team and despite good spells in games always likely to concede. There is nothing worse for attacking players to play well only for the team to concede cheaply. The plan seems to be resolute at the back and use that confidence of not leaking goals to become more expansive as we go or at least keep racking up points.

As for heading ability. I'd say it would have been handy with the free header he ballooned over on the opening day of the season or even when he set up guiseley's goal on Saturday. His aimless running around manages to fool many. How many times does he actually get to the ball or even pressure the opposition. He is always a couple of yards short and would be better off holding his position and not wasting his energy Posted via mobile theme |

Re: Have any players improved?
I have to disagree. He doesn't run around aimlessly. Most of the time he has the ball and is willing to run at players, and he often makes clever runs which our midfield fail to spot.
He isn't a world beater by any means and yes, he can improve his finishing and crossing (well, he should be able to improve) but he has done well this season and has improved (which is the original point of the thread). And you can't argue that just because his assists have come mainly from corners that they aren't relevant! If he wasn't taking the corners who is to say his replacement would have crossed to the perfect spot for the goal to be scored? If that had been the case we would be a lot worse off than we are now. Give the lad a break, he is doing ok. |

Re: Have any players improved?
Rutherford has definitely improved !
Sadly he's still not good enough for a team with hopes of getting into the playoffs. I had hoped he'd be a squad filler and not a regular this season. Posted via mobile theme |

And so far, no one has proven that. |
