I understand how important it is to build from the back but to suggest we haven't really looked at how to attack yet is a bit strange.

To quote FOG from the Liverpool thread during last season:

"You cannot win the Premier League without a solid defence and that's a fact. Conte is a pragmatic manager who actually knows you have to defend and that's why he'll win the league."

Keates, Darlington et al get this and have made us hard to beat. It's really not that difficult to grasp.
Isn't this also what Jose did in his first season at United - Maybe next season we can win 3 of our first 5 games 4-0. It isn't great to watch at present, but as long as we stay in the mix, that is the main thing. I hope all those who have come on spouting that Darlington was talking nonsens, took up the issue with him at the meeting. It aint perfect, but at least the management now care about the club and will work hard to get it back to the football league.

Simple fact goals win games. If we can't score then the best we can get is a point. As seen on Saturday all it takes is a fluke deflection and we struggle.

I can't buy that Wright argument. You need attacking players to break down a defensive side. Also with us playing hoof ball down the sides we are pretty much bypassing the middle of the pitch anyway. As for Wrights poor passing well the others are no great shakes in that department.

That's so true, and goal fests help fill stadiums too - but I've seldom heard anybody raving about their pleasure at watching a 0 - 0 bore draw, or persuading others to watch the repeats...

While some of the choices haven't worked (no Wright was mental) let's go back a year. People screaming at the Mills methods, and that we needed more preparation, fitness and planning. Now we're getting it and we're too technical and it's "billy bollocks". Draw your own conclusions.

This forum really takes the biscuit sometimes.

For years people have bemoaned our lack of professionalism, on the coaching front and elsewhere. We now have someone on board who is widely regarded as a great coach, not just at our level, but higher up the ladder too.

I used to read comments about our set up such as those that follow:-

What exactly does Gary Mills (the Wilkin one) do in training?
Do we really need to waste a wage on someone like him?
All kinds of derogatory comments about the ladder used in training.
All kinds of comments concerning our lack of fitness.
Darren Caskey may have been a decent player, but he's now a wage thief.
Are xxxx a part time team?
Why are they fitter than us, even after a hard days work?
Why do we concede so many late goals....must be down to fitness.
We do not seem to have a game plan.
Etc. Etc.

Fans were rightly (imo) clamouring for Darlington to do the right thing and come to us. In fact I cannot recall anyone voicing an opinion other than a positve towards the man, prior to his arrival, and certainly no one said they didn't want him here.

So now we have got him and somewhat refreshingly, he takes the time to divulge some of the philosophies and methods being adopted and all of a sudden, we now have someone who elicits the following comments, some of whom I would hazard a guess made comments like the above:-

Too technical for this level...
It's nonsense, isn't it......
Sounds like a load of bull......
Sounds like a load of Billy Bollocks....
Keates has become more scared of losing than going for the win.

Such is life I guess and some people feel obliged to concentrate on the negative in everything.

Simple fact is goals lose games. If you don't concede you don't lose and you get at least a point. A fluke deflection and we win..

Just to present the other side of the argument, you understand.

You mean like the fluke deflection Guiseley got on Saturday and then almost mugged us for the points.

At home then surely we expect to attack the opposition.

I actually think with our best starting 11 then we are a couple of tweaks away from being able to challenge but in all reality I do think Keates has set up up scared to lose and I also think its bull about starting to work on our attacking play.

I know that Darlo also prefers 433 and doesn't like 442 whereas Keates prefers 442 so we have a difference of opinion there as well.

There was a link on Facebook to the video, but as well as that, as there seems to be so much interest still, the interview is being edited slightly and will be available to listen to this friday on the Dragonheart radio show, 4pm on Calon fm, and then available shortly After as a podcast to download, hope this helps.
