As for the rest of the team, they all put a shift in without exception. I can't think of anyone who had a bad game today. As the game went on we looked confident that no matter what the opposition tried to throw at us we could deal with it. Down to ten men and we held our shape and put in a really disciplined performance. It was great to see Holroyd's hard work rewarded with the winning goal. Kelly had his best game in a Wrexham shirt so far. The keeper was brilliant even if his kicking was wayward at times. Wright was excellent, as were the defence. Reid could have got frustrated up front alone but the lad kept going and did his bit to contribute to what was one of the best team performances I've seen for years. Sure it wasn't pretty but it was very effective. As the game went on Tranmere looked more and more desperate and we looked more sure of ourselves. Well done to the management team for the starting selection, tactics and substitutions. It all worked out as planned. Well done to the fans who got behind the team from start to finish. I wish home matches were like that. Today's game was what it's all about and is why I keep going to watch Wrexham. |

It sure was a great battling performance a draw would of been a good result under the circumstances. But to win was magnifico. I wouldn't write the Tramps off though they look a side really lacking in confidence upfront remind me of our season following on from losing to Newport at Wembley. Posted via mobile theme |

Re: Tranmere Reaction
In many ways the early sending off spoilt the game as a viewing spectacle - we virtually defended all match with 10 men behind the ball rarely being able to push forward - even more remarkable was us getting enough bodies up the other end of the pitch to actually score a goal - defensively as a unit each and every player including the subs were brilliant today and that makes it even more satisfying.
There has been criticism for weeks about the lack of a striker and a creative midfielder - to some degree they may already be here in our ranks - Holroyd returning from injury up front and Kelly in the centre of midfield who played very well today and retained good possession especially during the first half. Anyway, enjoy the weekend and savour the moment. I feel a 'Red Light' victory celebration continuing into the night - here is Peter and Sian from Mold travelling home from Prenton Park - even their car is red and you can get a Wxm from the registration number - priceless ! https://youtu.be/uAoB6Depms0 |

Re: Tranmere Reaction
From the tranmere forum regarding Cook:
"Cook will go in January if Mellon is still here! It is well known that there is bad feeling between Cook and Mellon. He's in the last year of his deal and wanted away during the Summer, there is no reason for him to want to stay and we'll cash in on the last 6 months of his deal." and "I have a relative who works at the club, and the only reason Cook is still there is because Mark Palios rates him! That is an absolute fact! Micky Mellon is not a fan of Cook, that is also a fact. So unless you can trump that then silence is golden!" |

Re: Tranmere Reaction
So nothing has changed at Tranmere since pre season - many Rovers fans are simply bemused that Mellon seems to play virtually everybody ahead of Cook - despite him being their top scorer last season. In the Play off final at Wembley Mellon played Mangan from the off - today Alabi was preferred from the start. I was sure Cook would have come to us pre season and believe the only hurdle to cross was Palios who's insistence was he rated him and didn't want him going to a potential promotion rival - despite both the player and the manager agreeable to the move - behind closed doors.
Something is amiss between Mellon & Cook and has been for some time - it's just a matter of who leaves first ! The Tranmere situation reminds me exactly of our own experiences both after the 98 point season and after the Newport County play off defeat - claims of 'we'll be better next season and stronger' just didn't happen - a bit like after the Lord Mayor's show - the following seasons on both occasions were a damp squib and we never mounted a serious challenge thereafter. |

Re: Tranmere Reaction
Don't get the clamour for Cook. He's not that good and his contribution to team play is limited.
Going back to yesterday. I thought we witnessed the result of work that had been done on the training ground. A great, well disciplined performance with players closing down the opposition in the right areas of the field after Wedgebury got himself an early bath. Probably the most stupid two yellows I've seen for a long time. We looked the better side up 'till then. Defensively we were brilliant but to move forward we need to retain the ball better and get better movement in midfield. A big thank you for the brain dead moron who let off the flares and has probably cost us a hefty fine. Hope the idiot is identified and banned. |
