PENMON FAMILY HISTORY AND RELATED TOPICS - WREXHAM A.F.C. 1977/78
A great adventure with some cracking results but failure in the final 2 games . The doom & gloom merchants stating "Wrexham just don't want it & can't afford to go up". Made the following 12 months all the better after the experience of such a good team missing out. No better feeling than knowing Wrexham AFC feared no-one and were so well respected. |

Re: Crowd v Sutton
I have made numerous searches for the footage of that Crystal Palace home match but can't find it - although I know I do have it on a VHS video - think it was a look back at the previous season from the 77 / 78 season.
Anyway, that fixture still lingers on in the minds of many - top left corner of your head under 'nightmares'. Just unwinding earlier in that season I distinctly remember the home derby v boxing day on 27 December 76 v Chester when we won 4 - 2 infront of 15,412. Billy Ashcroft and Bob Delgado kicked the sxxx out of each other all match - two warriors held in the highest respect ! We went to Palace as late as 03 May to lose 2 - 1 infront of 18,583. Then the home match on Thursday 11 May 77 where we lost in heartbreaking fashion 2 - 4 in front of 18,451 - going into the game we only needed a point but lost the two last home games - our home form that season was really good - if anything our away form let us down with too many defeats. Following Saturday - 14 May we lose to Mansfield Town, attendance 20,754. The crowds in those days were unbelievable - but was that final defeat a blessing in disguise ? we will never know but the next season Dixie Mcneil and Dai Davies arrived and the rest is history - wonder what would have happened if John Neal had got us up and Billy Ashcroft had stayed with us - another of life's 'what if's'. |

Re: Crowd v Sutton
Trying to buy an advanced ticket for tomorrow's game on the Club website, but it's not listing the Tech End as an option. (I am clicking "best available" rather than "choose seats" as advised.)
Never had this problem before and I checked for the Eastleigh game and the Tech End option comes up no problem. Either this is a glitch or, more improbably, the Tech End has sold out for tomorrow's game. Any ideas? |

Re: Crowd v Sutton
After the Mansfield game I remember driving to Llandudno to see my girlfriend at the time. Almost 40 years on and I can remember her words to me that night.."It's only a game". Those were the last words she ever spoke to me. I've not seen her since.
