Default Re: FA Cup

Ideally we would have success in all competitions, as many teams have had over the years. Success breeds success. Lincoln were proof of that and our best ever league performance coincided with 2 major quarter finals after 2 thrilling cup runs plus the Welsh cup. Teams have smaller squads these days but cup revenue and exposure brings additional finance to invest in the squad and more fans through the gate for league games.

FA cup has the same priority as the league for me. The FA Trophy has no interest. We need to pay reserves and youth.

I'd love a cup run this season. Just to round 3 I'd be happy.

Fantastic memories over the years, particularly away. Chester (2-0), Peterborough (4-2) and Birmingham (3-1) are up there as my favourite ever games I've been to.

Southampton, West Ham, taking the lead at United, Newcastle 2-2, Bristol City 4-4 and then Brentford and Brighton recently. The list goes on.
The Cardiff away 1 is the one that I still have nightmares about.

A cup run to help the budget would be great this season.

Southampton was my first away giant killing. Experiences that turn you into lifelong fans. Confident after great wins against Palace & Middlesborough, little Wxm playing away against a first division team, with household names and England internationals the likes of Mick Channon & Terry Paine in their ranks. Our all white kit, plastered in mud as the team went for it, backed by the loudest vocal support I had ever heard Dave Smallman leaping like a salmon to score the winner, us fans losing our voices, the long search for our coach, then what seemed like a 10 hour journey home as the coach driver got us lost.

We were somewhat spoilt in those days and we expected big cup scalps, but they laid a fantastic foundation for more &more success.

I find it incredible to believe that the following clip is now 20 years old.

Replay at Upton Park v West Ham United - it's the 89th minute and the score is 0 - 0.

Then the ball is played across the edge of the box to Kevin Russell and the rest is history.

We don't car if he's got no hair, Kevin, Kevin........................
