This probably cost the Club a lot of money, since had we kept Maxwell longer term we would have got a fee, potentially.

Mayebi was probably the most unprofessional professional footballer we have ever on our books.

Now playing in South Africa, apparently, so must have got his passport sorted at last.
I thought Morell was in charge when Mayebi had a long run in the team and we had our best NL performances on the ay to 98 points.

I was sceptical at first, as everyone had been raving about young Maxi especially Mayebi's kicking but he soon won us over and understood why he was number 1 for that period. My other reservations were we needed Maxi on a longer contract but he refused to commit to the club It is an old debate now, but that was my recollection.

Never liked Mayebi.

Even Ken Hughes would have looked a half decent keeper with a defence of Obeng, Ashton, Beast and Nat Knight in front of him.

We've got a proud history of current/former keepers representing Wales. I can think of at least 3 in recent memory...

My recollection is that Maxi went away on a Wales u21 trip and gave an interview along the lines of "I think I have done enough to be the No.1 goalkeeper for Wrexham". Mayebi was playing in his stead whilst he was on International duty.

It seems Saunders took exception to this and kept Mayebi in the team at Maxwells expense. That was the beginning of the end.

Morrell took over in October and had most of the season to bring maxwell back in. It was he who persisted with mayebi. If maxwell had been number 1 keeper at the end of that season and guaranteed being first choice the season after he may not have left or at least would have signed a contract

Maybe the case but Maxi would have realised as a feee agent he was going to get a better deal on a free. Maxi was heavily critised for the piece in the paper and he appeared to have been naive with his comments or set up by the reporter. Morrell kept faith with Mayebi as we amassed 98 points and yes we had a good team but Mayebi more than played his part. In hindsight he could have been dropped him, if Maxi would have comitted to staying but equally rather than cash in on NKP, Morrell gave it our best shot at the championship.
