Default 'Waterfall' in the MRS

I emailed Geraint Parry when I got home yesterday complaining about once again having to move seats due to the waterfall in the corner of the roof of the MRS town end , So for others in that area , I had a reply straight away from Him , He said te problem is not the roof , but the soakaways at ground level , blocked and the water is backing up the downspout and coming through the seals because it has nowhere to go , Directors are working on a solution with a Company .

That's very interesting - of course these problems only come to light when it's throwing it down.

Yesterday as I came out of the Tech end at the end of the match one of the large vertical drain pipes on the back of the stand wall was gushing out water from a collar at the bottom of the pipe (less than a foot from ground level). There appears no sealant between the collar and the pipe - just gaps. When you walk along the back of the stand towards the corner with the Yale Stand your in effect walking down a slope and at the corner of both stands there is a break in the fence line which provides a throughfare to the Glyndwr car park.

All the water was running down the slope and collecting at this location resembling a 'small pond' - just at the point where everyone trying to access the car park was.

So we may have a problem with the soakaways behind the tech End stand too as if the water travelling down the downpipe had somewhere to go it wouldn't be throwing itself back through the collar of the pipe joint.

Proceed to the club shop and again the vertical drain down pipe near the main door was not functioning - water was gushing out from a height of about 8ft - the roof above the club shop is flat and I believe the gutter to the downpipe is blocked by vegetation / leaf matter (whatever). I visited the club shop in the summer on a similar wet day and made a specific point of telling the shop staff of the problem. Structurally it looks fine - probably only needs a ladder and a bucket to clear out the gutter.

Water is a powerful force it will force its way out somewhere , and seals will give at some point , if this problem is below ground , it is a big problem , and very costly

Please don't mention 'seals' on this forum - they need clubbing

The problem is that maintenance of the stands and structures have been neglected for years particularly when we had owners more interested in squeezing money out of the club.

Result of poor maintenance over the period when previous ground owners were in charge perhaps ????

I thought the same thing when I read the post redavid. I'm not sure how a soakaway stops working underground, unless the water table rises for some reason. Perhaps in really excessive wet weather, the soakaway isnt big enough to cope, but once it is installed and covered then the soakaway, itself, shouldn't ever be a problem, as it is what it says 'a soakaway'.
Perhaps the pipes leading into the soakaway have become blocked?

They fill up with leaves moss etc and the water doesn't penetrate through to soakaway.

Thanks RED2309.
Am I correct in thinking that the soakaways were revamped a couple of seasons ago, as the newspaper article in 2014 said

"As well as new changing facilities and better seating for disabled supporters there will be a brand new pitch and improved drainage and irrigation around the stadium."
The ground will be closed for two months when work begins next week, and will be ready for the start of the new football season in August.

or did this work just relate to the pitch?
