I think the figures may speak for themselves.

He may not have scored lately but his work off the ball and keeping the ball is excellent.
I would also add he hasnt had many, if any, really clear cut chances to score oine!
I agree that when he gets to chest it down to his feet his close control is excellent.

However if you are going to count the number of times he does that, you need to count the number of times he watches the defender head it away unchallenged. The 'free headers to ball kept' ratio will be around 100:1.

As for the chances, a good strikers job is not to wait for service so they can finish, its to lead the line effectively. This will mean making things happen themselves, giving defenders a hard time, getting hold of the ball, passing the ball and hopefully finishing chances.

The issue about service to the strikers is the same for Holroyd but he has got himself into 2 goal scoring positions recently.

I thought Holroyd gave the ball away quite a lot, whereas Boden was quite neat and tidy. Boden was making runs off the ball. However that was about it from Boden. There was no conviction or real commitment. Holroyd on the other hand was getting physically involved and putting himself in positions where he might do damage. Boden looks like a player afraid of injury and lacking in confidence. He has the skill no doubt but right now he is a bit powder puff.

I said this the first time I seen Boden that before seeing him playing he looked ill white as a ghost ( possibly Scotland) more meat on a butchers pencil, looking like he needs a good feed to build him up, however as I've said on a previous post I won't give up on him just yet as he has hardly played and I'm not sure if he has played 90mins, I still think it's down to 3 things with him. Lack of match fitness, totally lacking in confidence and Wrexham spending more time defending than attacking sides with quality, hoofing a ball in the air forward usually ends up giving away possesion because we have no height upfront or anyone capable of holding the ball up, so we should start playing like the last half hour Saturday when Boden had gone off.

Not sure on Boden myself, but people were saying Kelly was finished 2 weeks ago. Boden came in late with no pre season behind him so he is a little behind the rest of the team. His confidence is also very low - if he gets a goal he will come on leaps and bounds hopefully. For instance the goal at Tranmere has certainly sparked Holroyd into life - been excellent since then.
It's a very long season and there has been a very gradual improvement of the team and performances. Long may it continue.

I've said this on another post if Kelly is in c/m Boden will get more balls to feet-and more chance to score.

Agree Boden needs more games to get fit, which is not ideal. My 2 biggest concerns are: lack of pace over a short burst; poor movement. Hope he picks up soon because we cannot afford to carry too many passengers.

Bowden seems to me to be one of those strikers who wants chances handed to him on a plate. He's not going to get that in this set up. He's got to put himself about and make things happen.

Bowden left in 1995 and played in midfield! #animal
