Exactly - he's now a free agent and can sign and play for whoever takes him on.

If you don't ask you don't get - we should at least make an enquiry, I can't think we will have a better opportunity to find such a good midfielder who was not only FGR skipper but took them up last season - the appeal of playing alongside old team mates Wedgbury and Kelly for a team already challenging for top spot would be a massive statement of intent. Also depends on how much closer to his north east roots he is prepared to go - in all honesty a helluva lot closer than Gloucestershire but still some distance away.

My understanding is that only players who have had their contract cancelled before the transfer window closes can be signed outside the transfer window as a free agent. He would be able to sign for Hartlepool as they aren't governed by the transfer window.
