They came to the Racecourse on 27 Feb, undefeated in the league to that point.
We won 1-0 with an Arfon Griffiths goal in the 47th minute.

This fits with the photo as Jones, Sutton and Geoff Davies were all in that side. As was Brian Lloyd who looks like the 'keeper on the pic. Also Dave Fogg in the background there too and in the side on that day.

Bannister was in the Rovers side, but not Warboys. He may have been injured.

Yes Bristol Rovers.

I remember the game and that they were top & undefeated all season, but I presume, you have looked up the details regarding Arfon's winner or you must have a fantastc memory.

I remember being part of a pitch invasion of small boys scurrying onto the pitch from the paddock at the end of that match. It was a big story at the time as Rovers were being touted as invincibles.

Also, I think they sold red and white scarves and bobble hats. Long before football clubs realised the value of merchandising..

Warboys & Bannister - I remember them well, what a strike force they were !

Here's a clip from 1973 with them playing v Aston Villa - you can at least see the similarity with the quartered kit as shown in the photograph.

So what intrigues me is the name of the stand - Bushfield or Bushfields - where did it originate and was it actually connected to the clothing store in the market ? Did a family of that name have club connections then or earlier in our history or was it an early attempt at sponsorship ?
